About

Why SHOR exists

When someone you love is struggling, it has a way of taking up more and more of your life.

You check your phone. You wonder where they are. Whether you should call. Whether you should give them space. Whether helping is actually helping. You replay conversations. You try to stay hopeful while getting ready for what might come next.

And somewhere along the way, it gets easy to forget about you.

I know this from both sides. I have 16 years in recovery. For a long time I was the person everyone was worried about. My mom was the one worrying.

She loved me fiercely. She tried to help. She had to learn when to step in, when to step back, when to hold on, and when to draw a line. She carried hope, fear, guilt, frustration, and love, often all at once.

Today I understand what that cost her in a way I couldn’t then. I wish she had had something that was just for her. People who already knew, without the whole story. A reminder that her life mattered too.

That is why I built SHOR.

You love them. You still get support of your own.

A private check-in. A small circle of people who understand what you’re carrying. One text, when you want it.

I wish my mom had had SHOR. My hope is that now, you do.
